Children’s Play Area

Ampthill Park children's play area is a large play space with different designs of play equipment and plenty of room in between to picnic and play. We check the play equipment daily and a yearly safety inspection is carried out by RoSPA. If you have any concerns about the play area please contact the Town Council on 01525 404355.

Sorry, dogs are not permitted in the children's play area.

We are pleased to inform you that the Wood carver, Peter Leadbeater, has now completed both the woodland arch and the storyteller’s chair, with additional seating area around the chair, which is already being enjoyed by various users of the park.

News about the Ampthill Play Castle

The Town Council have listened to the views of parents and children over the concerns surrounding the closure of the Play Castle in Ampthill Park. It had been hoped that this equipment could be used until after the summer holidays, and then there were plans to replace it with a new facility. However, a recent ROSPA safety report had the result of the equipment being unsafe for use and it was closed much earlier in order to prevent any injuries to younger people. It was the intention to run a consultation with parents and children at Gala Day, but this is now thought to be too long a process as it would leave the play area with no main piece of equipment as we approach the summer holidays. There were two configurations to consider for the new equipment and therefore the Council has decided to go ahead with the design which affords the best play opportunities of different ways of climbing, sliding, socialising and using imaginative play. This will be in place by early July as there is a four-week construction phase and two weeks’ installation period, please see above image of new equipment.

The Council hope that this will provide younger people hours of fun.

In the period until the equipment is in use the Council are happy to run additional Forest School sessions for children to develop imaginative play using the natural environment. Please contact Lindsay Measures on 01525 844173 or
