Anti-litter signage for Ampthill Great Park

Anti-litter signage for Ampthill Great Park

28 July 2020

At the start of lockdown the Park was very quiet, but as time went on and the weather improved people turned to the Park as a place to meet, relax and picnic. Unfortunately, there were a significant minority of people who didn’t think it was their responsibility to take their litter home or put it in a bin. Many visitors expressed their frustration on social media and the Park Rangers more than doubled their efforts to keep on top of the problem. It was an issue which afflicted parks and open spaces across the country.
A campaign led by Cllr Chris Redding and Parks Manager, Phil Nicholson to enhance our Anti-litter signage with a targeted, more provocative, and direct approach was supported via a vote on Ampthill.Info Facebook page. Members of this page voted overwhelmingly in support of this proposal.
This new signage will also be adopted by the Cricket Club and Ampthill Festival to remind people that it is their responsibility to dispose of their litter correctly and not to expect others to tidy up their mess often indiscriminately tossed across the landscape.
The council will also be rolling out more general waste and recycling bins at various locations in the Park
This initiative forms part of the ongoing strategy to make sure Ampthill Great Park can be enjoyed by all  and remains a pleasant and  safe place to visit.
At the Full Town Council meeting on the 15th July this motion was UNANIMOUSLY supported by all Town Councillors.
