Civic Service 2018 - Chris Hayes, Roll of Honour

16 October 2018

The Town Mayor, Councillor Stephen Addy, presenting Mr Christopher Hayes with this Roll of Honour badge and certificate at the annual Civic Service held on Sunday 14th October 2018.

Town Mayor's speech:

The second person has again been nominated by people who know him very well.
When you move to Ampthill if you make friends with this character then you are quite often in a lot of trouble very quickly, you will find yourselves being volunteered for many different activities that you perhaps were not previously aware that you would have been good at. One of my favourite quotes is “Within minutes of meeting Chris I had been volunteered for the Proms”.
He has often created or been at the start of many of the big events that happen in the town today, these include the Festival, Christmas Lights, Remembrance Sunday, Fireworks, the community cinema and he has also been a local councillor. He has been involved in numerous fundraising activities over the years including most notably a cheeky calendar raising money for Male cancer charities.
Everybody I have spoken to describes him as a great friend, someone who will always help you, supportive, encouraging and who always takes me out of my comfort zone. He makes me a better version of me. Everything he turns his hand to is a big success, his wealth of experience is always needed around the town and his opinions are always well respected.
However, one of my favourite images of him is dressed in an ABBA costume at this year’s festival.
My favourite quote however is this “I want to thank you for inspiring me and so many others. The wonderful events that you have created and been involved in are still running to this day and will be for many years to come. We are very proud of you and you will be someone that will be remembered in Ampthill for many years to come.”
I am extremely pleased to announce that Chris Hayes has joined the Ampthill Roll of Honour.
