Civic Service 2018 - Kelvin Horton

16 October 2018

The Town Mayor, Councillor Stephen Addy, presenting the Roll of Honour certificate and badge to Mr Kelvin Horton at the Civic Service held on Sunday 14th October 2018.

The Mayor's speech:

One of the duties that I am very pleased to have today is inaugurating two Ampthill Residents into the roll of honour. The word resident doesn’t do these two characters justice at all, they are indeed Ampthill Legends.
A lot of people that nominated this person for this recognition have known him for 30 to 40 years. He has always been involved in the community, if you ask him why, he will tell you that he is just “Nosy”.
He is described as enthusiastic and energetic, can do attitude, ingenuity, engineering skills, no task too big or small.
A summary of the works that he has been involved with over the years include being part of the Alameda and Redborne PTA, helping to build the scout hut extension, helping install apparatus in the park with a grant from the Queens Silver Jubilee, helping constructing footpaths, involvement with the Greensand Ridge Trust, Otter Spotting, building scenery for plays, helping arrange children’s play week during the summer holidays, researching local history, a school Governor, a volunteer for the Ampthill Good Neighbour scheme, the bat walks wouldn’t be the same without him.
A founder member of Aragon day celebrations for which he enjoys dressing up particularly wearing tights.
He describes himself as one of Ampthill’s eccentrics and my favourite image is of him appearing in a pantomime as a dwarf.
A thoroughly great guy whom has been a great servant to Ampthill who always gives 100% of support to the community.
I am delighted to announce that Kelvin Horton has joined the Ampthill Roll of Honour.
